Pocket Overview

Let’s make a crucial distinction right away to emphasize.

Pocket is Not a bookmarking service. According to its developers, it functions as a reading list where you may keep track of all the internet articles you desire to read. An article can be archived or deleted once it is finished. You may be sure that the Pocket app is secure because it is well-known and frequently utilized. It has a web interface that you can use in Chrome, Firefox, or any other browser, and it is accessible for iOS, Android, Mac, and many other platforms.

On the other hand, bookmarks are a constant in your browser. These are the links that, despite your best efforts, you keep returning to again and time again.

Tag and group items to keep your read-it-later supply organized if you want to utilize Pocket as a practical bookmarking system. Additionally, even if posts are removed from the web, you can still view them thanks to “read-it-later.”

(As long as the articles can be accessed directly from Pocket rather than being forwarded to the source URL.)

So why use Pocket instead of bookmarks? What shortcomings does Pocket have?

Pocket Main Features

Pocket offers you a user-friendly interface for both managing the links you’ve saved and reading them. Your links can be seen as a list or a grid when you save them to Pocket.

In this, Pocket really shines. It provides blog posts and articles in a simplified, ad-free interface. This provides a consistent reading experience across devices and improves the reading experience.

On the other hand, bookmarks in your browser can only be seen as a list by default. You must click on a link to open it in a new window so that you can read it. You are no longer in possession of any erased content from that URL.

Additionally, Pocket includes its own organizational function called Highlights. When reading a text piece, you can pick and touch Highlight to make a section or statement that you wish to remember to stand out.

The pros of Pocket

Several options for content saving, including a keyboard shortcut.

  • Offline access – Pocket allows you to access your material while offline, which is different from many other bookmark managers.
  • Offline access – Pocket allows you to access your material while offline, which is different from many other bookmark managers.
  • Offline access – Pocket allows you to access your material while offline, which is different from many other bookmark managers.

Cons of Pocket

The one thing about Pocket Scope that we don’t like is that it only allows us to save articles for later reading. Other browser-related issues, like controlling tabs or categorizing your bookmarks by projects, are not resolved by it.

  • Issues with photos – Sometimes, when reading articles inside the app, images don’t display correctly. This typically happens with images that include a lot of data, such as infographics or charts.
  • The formatting of the original article may be distorted by the in-app article preview. Even though it only seldom occurs, this is annoying.

Verdict

As a save-it-for-later app, Pocket performs admirably. You’ll be happy if this feature is all that you’re looking for. However, Pocket falls short if you’re searching for a bookmarking tool with more robust functionality. Features like managing tabs, suspending tabs, and collaboration are absent (for example, if your team wants to add bookmarks for a shared project or knowledge base).

Pocket is an amazing tool for saving articles, videos, and other web content for later. It's small, but it packs a punch! It's great for saving content for reading or watching later, and it syncs between devices so you can access your content on any device. It's also easy to share saved content with friends.
