How we review software

Cloudfindr exists to help buyers choose business software without wading through vendor marketing. This page explains exactly how we research, score and maintain our reviews — and what we will never do.

Independence

No vendor can pay for a ranking. Placement in our category rankings is determined by buyer ratings and our own editorial assessment. We do not sell ranking positions, and there are no sponsored slots mixed into the rankings.

Some outbound links are affiliate links. If you sign up for a product through one of them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That commission never affects a tool’s score, what we write about it, or where it appears in a ranking — our assessment is written independently of whether a commercial relationship exists, and we do not accept payment to change it.

Affiliate revenue is how a directory like this stays free to read without selling rankings. If we ever run a genuinely paid placement, it will be labelled as advertising on the page itself and kept out of the rankings.

The bar every review has to clear

Most software directories republish the vendor’s own description. That is not a review, and it helps nobody decide anything. So we hold every page to one blunt test:

A review is only worth publishing if it tells you at least three concrete things the vendor’s own website does not.

In practice that means real pricing maths for a realistic team size, an honest account of who the tool is not for, genuine drawbacks, and a named comparison against the alternatives you are probably also considering. If we cannot clear that bar for a product, we would rather publish nothing.

What goes into a review

Two different numbers

You will sometimes see two ratings on a product page, and they mean different things:

Buyer rating

The average rating left by people who actually use the product, shown with the number of reviews behind it. We never write, edit or commission these.

Cloudfindr editorial score

Our own assessment out of 5, weighing capability against price, fit for a defined buyer, and how it compares with the alternatives. It is our opinion, not an average of user reviews.

Because the editorial score is our judgement rather than aggregated user ratings, we never publish it as a star rating in search results.

Where our information comes from

Pricing moves constantly. Every review carries the date it was last reviewed, and the figures reflect what was published on that date.

Keeping reviews current

Each review shows a last reviewed date. We revisit a page when a vendor materially changes pricing or packaging, when buyer feedback shifts the picture, or when a competitor changes the landscape. Reviews we can no longer stand behind are updated or removed rather than left to rot.

Corrections and vendor requests

If we have something wrong — a price, a feature, a limitation — tell us and we will check it and correct it. Vendors are welcome to request a re-review or submit updated information. What we cannot offer is editing our verdict, removing a fair criticism, or buying a better position.
